How the check works

• We picked the load-bearing skills. For each grade, we chose 4 reading/English milestones and 4 math milestones that show up across the Common Core and most state standards — the ones that predict everything downstream. Not the whole curriculum, just the ones that matter most.
• You’re the instrument. You see your child read, write, and do math every day. Studies of parent-report screeners consistently find parents are a reliable read on their own kid’s skills — usually more so than a one-off test with a stranger.
• It’s a gut-check, not a diagnosis. This won’t catch a learning disability and doesn’t replace formal testing. What it will do is show you, honestly, where your kid stands on the milestones that matter — and give you one concrete next step.
